1929:
The following snippet appears in this day’s issue of The Film Daily
(a daily Hollywood publication):
Walt Disney, with his “Mickey Mouse” and “Silly Symphonies” series, is paving the way for
a bigger and better year. Grauman’s Chinese, Carthay Circle, Fox Palace, and Criterion
theaters have signed for the product. The Disney boys are making rapid headway with
their creations, adding new sound effects with each cartoon.
1942:
Mouseketeer Ronnie Steiner is born in Canada.
He joined the Mickey Mouse Club in the first season as a dancer.
1955:
The Mickey Mouse Club airs on ABC-TV. Today is Fun With Music Day. Musical numbers include Roy Williams dressed as the “boy at the dike” singing Roy at the Dike and Jimmie Dodd dressed as Tom Sawyer (along with a handful of the Mouseketeers) singing Painting Aunt Polly’s Fence.
2001:
Disney World unveils its holiday lights and decorations with The Osborne Family Spectacle of Lights at Disney-MGM Studios.
(Arkansas businessman Jennings Osborne received worldwide attention when he first created the luminous light show for his daughter more than a decade ago.) The glowing bulbs light Residential Street, Washington Square and New York Street in merry holiday displays that include 170 flying angels, two 30-foot-tall carousels, illuminated trees, and 50 lighted Mickey Mouse figures.

It’s hard for me to believe I am even writing this, but yes, it’s true! We were very fortunate that the awesome Julie Nathanson, current speaking and singing voice of Disney’s Princess Belle agreed to come on the Disney Parks Podcast as our very special guest. Julie is warm, sassy, funny, and she has so many wonderful qualities that you would probably expect from Princess Belle herself. There is so much feminist controversy over the Disney Princesses and my very favorite part of the interview was hearing Julie put into words how she feels about Belle, and why Belle’s character is a wonderful example for young girls. Julie has such a beautiful way of expressing herself that I admire so very much.

If you have ever wandered passed the River Roost Lounge in Disney Port Orleans Riverside Resort in the evening – you may have have heard the sounds of folks laughing, cheering, and singing along with the fantastic performer and Disney treasure that we all know as YeeHa Bob! Hopefully you’ve seen his show already, but if not, you will definitely want to take the time to check it out during your next visit to Walt Disney World. Bob is not to be missed!
He performs most nights of the week at the River Roost for 2 action packed shows. His talent, enthusiasm and energy are unmatched by almost anyone I have ever known. There is SO much to Bob, beyond the music, and he is truly an amazing man. We were so honored to have him as a guest on the Disney Parks Podcast.

Tammy Turner is your host on the Tiara Talk Show YouTube Channel! She brings you rare and fun interviews with creators of the Disney magic — such as actors, singers, dancers, imagineers and cast members who have worked for the Disney Company over the years! Tammy has such a fun personality and really brought a lot to this episode – we were very fortunate and thankful to have her on as a guest.
At Tammy’s request we chose our top 3 favorite characters to bring back to the parks. We kept our answers a surprise from each other until this recording.

You may recognize Mike Brassell as the voice of The Tomorrowland Transit Authority People Mover in the Magic Kingdom, or as the voice you hear as you relax and enjoy your boat ride through the Living with The Land attraction at Epcot. You may be surprised to learn he has actually done a LOT of additional work for Disney movies– and more. He is also a seasoned musical composer, now a THREE time Emmy winner, family man, all around great guy!
Besides Mike himself being fantastic – highlights of this interview also include:
This episode has excellent sound quality, but due to technical difficulties, a small section at the beginning of the interview was lost. During that time, we asked Mike what it is like to be immortalized on a Disney attraction. He joked that when he took his kids on the TTA for the first time – they were amazed and in a bit of disbelief that it was really him they were hearing! He is such a humble man – and he is very respectful of what Disney represents to so many of us.
On a personal note I have to admit that I was SO excited to have a chance to talk with Mike – as you will notice throughout the interview! I love his enthusiasm, drive, and I admire his amazing career. I was in total awe of being able to speak to this man who is and always will be a Disney legend to me. I hope you will enjoy the show as much as we enjoyed conducting this interview!
