Top 3 Reasons for Any Season – Basq Skin Care “It’s a Small World” Collection

Published June 9, 2014 by Disneyways.com

Have you heard the buzz about the exciting collaboration between the Basq Skin Care line and Disney? Want to win a free set for yourself?

In addition to many other products, Basq carries a wonderful line they call the “It’s a Small World” collection. The Basq company was very generous to send me some samples to try so that I could give you my honest opinion. Since then, I have already bought another set for myself, one to give away to one of you,  and one for my beautiful niece, who happens to be expecting a baby in August. Can you tell I am in love?!  These products are fantastic for expectant mothers and babies,  but they also have qualities that any woman can enjoy in any season of her life. Here are my top 3 reasons why you may want to give the “It’s a Small World” collection a try!

small-world-basq-dream-4oz-photo-1400x1400-dcp-0051

1. These products are sensitivity and allergy tested!

Some people are allergic to even the purest foods and products, but it is good to know that the Basq line is clinically tested if you tend to be sensitive. Not  just the “It’s a Small World” line – but all Basq products – are Paraben-free, Phthalate-free, SLS Free and not tested on animals. Basq really has a passion for bringing you skin care that is safe, nurturing and of the highest quality. Having tried the products for myself – I can tell you this passion really shows! The scent of the “It’s a Small World’ line is extremely light – and gentle enough even for a baby’s delicate senses. It’s perfect for every day use and, in my opinion, would not compete with other scents you may want to wear if you are in the mood for layering fragrances.

2. Everyone can use a little luxury at a price that won’t break the bank.

This line is classified as a luxury skin care collection, but surprisingly, it doesn’t have the exorbitant cost one might expect. Basq is sold online and in fine maternity and baby boutiques across the country, including Saks.com, A Pea in the Pod and Destination Maternity, and even outside the US in various international locations. When money is no object and luxury is key – celebrities like Heidi Klum, Christy Turlington, Marcia Cross, Sheryl Crow (and more!) are using this line to keep their head to toe glow. Hey, if it’s good enough for Heidi, it’s good enough for me!

Here’s more exciting news! Right now you can save an additional 35% on your Basq Skin Care “It’s a Small World Collection” just by typing in DISNEYWAYS at check out! Basq just made it even more affordable to add a little pampering and luxury to our day. Not just for the rich and famous, this is a line that all of us can enjoy!

LOVING TOUCH BASQ

3. The Art of Mary Blair…

The packaging of the “It’s a Small World” Collection displays the original colorful and playful artistry of Mary Blair. Most Disney fans will recognize her name and association with the mid-century artwork created for the classic Small World attraction that we all know and love.  Mary Blair was one of Walt Disney’s favorite artists. Walt personally responded to her use of color and the storytelling aspect of her art, but especially to the underlying emotion it encompassed. Iconic Disney animated films from 1943 to 1953 – such as The Three Caballeros, Cinderella, Alice in Wonderland, and Peter Pan all had the Mary Blair touch. You can also see her work in large-scale theme park murals such as the one you can find to this day at Walt Disney World’s Contemporary resort located here in my home town of Orlando! Owning these beautiful products is like keeping a little piece of  the Disney magic right in your vanity drawer.

So there you have it, my top 3 reasons why I think you will love Basq Skin Care – no matter what season of life you are in.

Click HERE to try it for yourself – and be sure to enter DISNEYWAYS at check out for your 35% off discount!

I wanted you to be there with me when I opened the products for the first time  – so I asked my 17 year-old “baby” to film this video. 🙂  Obviously I am a nervous wreck on camera and this is not my best work, but hopefully you can pick up my honest reaction to everything, and feel a little more confident if you decide to give them a try. Have a magical day!

World Secrets: How to Get a Last Minute Dinner Reservation at Be Our Guest

Published January 9, 2014 by Disneyways.com

Does anyone else find it a little ironic that a restaurant that is literally named, “Be Our Guest” can be so hard to get in to?

Anyone who has ever called 6 months in advance just to find out they are completely booked knows what I am talking about here. But guess what? Last night I got a seemingly impossible dinner reservation at Be Our Guest and you can do it too. In fact, you can use these tips for any popular Walt Disney World restaurant.

beourguest

Now please don’t hold it against me that I have had a little practice with this process. If you called Disney Dining at 407-WDW-Dine at any time between 2008 and 2011 or so – I might have been the one that answered the phone and got you in at your favorite Disney restaurants. However…I wasn’t a miracle worker then and I am certainly not one now. Anyone has a chance to get into the most popular Disney restaurants at the last minute by utilizing these simple tips I am about to share with you today.

I’m going to start by stating the obvious. You best bet is to plan way in advance. There are lots of articles out there with tips on how to go about doing this. However, this particular blog post is for those of you out there who for whatever reason didn’t have the luxury of planning so far ahead.

IMG_1437

So here is step one: try getting in 2 days before and even 1 day before you want to dine. First go on-line to WaltDisneyWorld.com and if that doesn’t work, make the phone call to Disney dining reservations at 407-WDW-Dine. In training we were always told that table inventory was exactly the same on-line and over the phone, however, for whatever reason, the system CAN show different times of availability. I have seen it happen with my own eyes. So go ahead and try both methods. You can book dining as late as 3 hours in advance but either 2 or 1 day before you are wanting to dine is your best bet. Why? Because guests will cancel either 2 or 1 day before their reservation so that they don’t get hit with the $10 per person penalty depending on the policy of the respective restaurant. That is when you can hit the jackpot, swoop in, and score your dream dining reservation.

Even if you aren’t able to accomplish your booking with step one, there is still a glimmer of hope in step two. Don’t go out of your way, but if you are close to a restaurant that you would really love to try, ALWAYS walk up to the hostess stand and ask politely if they are taking walk-ins. You just never know. This works best if you are in a smaller party of 1 to 4 people. When we dined at Be Our Guest for our late dinner, we were told they had been taking walk-ins all evening. Please be nice and be understanding if they are completely booked. They can’t give you what is not there…but it never hurts to ask…especially if you are very nice about it.

It’s OK to keep asking too. Don’t be annoying and keep bugging them every hour – BUT do try again later if you are close by and notice there aren’t a lot of guests waiting around with pagers. I have experience with working at a hostess stand at Disney as well — and I can tell you there were many days where one hour we could not take walk-ins and then an hour or two later on that same day – we were able to. It all depends on how busy the parks are and how many people just didn’t show up for their dining reservations.

Finally, if all else fails, remember you are still at Disney World! All the restaurants are special in their own ways. Check the internet for those hidden gems that often have availability at the last minute, simply because they don’t get as much “hype.”

Just a few examples:

I have found a real treasure in Biergarten! The food is terrific and they’ve got a German polka band! Restaurant Marrakesh has belly dancers! Don’t forget about the Lava Lounge in Downtown Disney. It shares a kitchen with the Rainforest Cafe – and you never need a reservation because they only take walk-ins. Many Disney resort lounges and bars serve appetizers and even full meals. You can walk right up and order fast.

Best wishes in your last minute search and “Be Our Guest” to use these tips and score some great dining! If you enjoyed this post be sure to check out our next WORLD SECRET: HOW TO GET A PRINCESS MAKEOVER WHEN THE BIBBIDI BOBBIDI BOUTIQUE IS FULLY BOOKED!

Video Update! 7 Dwarfs Mine Train Coaster

Published December 9, 2013 by Disneyways.com

My friend John over at BigFatPanda.com published a really cool video update of the progress of construction on the 7 Dwarfs Mine Train Coaster that is located right in the middle of New Fantasyland in Walt Disney World.

Seemingly overnight, there has been an addition of a few scenic elements that we will encounter at the top of the mine train’s first lift. When mine cars pull out of the load area, they will go up the track to the top of the mountain, where a crane sits – with two familiar vultures perched on top! These vultures originally appeared in Orlando’s original Snow White’s Scary Adventures attraction. This is the last stop before the mine train’s cars plunge into a mine shaft. Weeee!!

vultures

Official word from Disney:

“The lovable world of Sleepy, Doc, Grumpy, Bashful, Sneezy, Happy and Dopey comes to life in spring 2014 when the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train takes New Fantasyland guests on a rollicking, musical ride into the mine “where a million diamonds shine.” Inspired by the 1937 Disney animated film classic “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs,” the fun starts as guests cross a stone bridge and walk through a beautiful forest with the Dwarfs’ cottage in the distance, leading to the entrance to the attraction — and immersion into the endearing story of the radiant and kindhearted Snow White and her forest friends led by the lovable Dwarfs.
After passing through an interactive pre-show area with fun activities themed to mining, guests will proceed to the mine train. Just like the iconic movie, surprises are in store! The family-style coaster will feature first-of-its-kind ride vehicles mounted in cradle-like pivots that allow the vehicles to swing back and forth during the ride. Adding to the fun, the journey will be accompanied by beloved music from the film classic and there’s a cast of animated figures of Snow White, the Seven Dwarfs and playful forest critters.”

Top 10 Rides For Babies and Toddlers at Disney World’s Magic Kingdom

Published May 19, 2013 by lwcgal2004

Hayden from Disney World on a Budget is our newest guest blogger here at Disneyways and we are so thrilled to have her with us!

hayden

Have you ever been at Walt Disney World with a baby or toddler and wondered which rides they would enjoy the most?

Hayden has some great suggestions to share!

Here is her complete list of  top 10 rides at Magic Kingdom for babies and toddlers:

10. Walt Disney World Railroad–this is a great ride to save for the end of the day when you’re tired of walking. I recommend riding the railroad from Fantasyland station to Main Street Station. This twenty minute scenic ride is a great way to see the park. Also a great to spot to nurse a baby.

photo

9. It’s A Small World—this is such a fun ride for children of all ages. Hop in a boat for a leisure ride throughout the different countries, the music entertains my kids and they are left singing the song for days afterwards.

Small World

8. Jungle Cruise–this is such a classic Disney ride, I remember riding this back in 1988 when I was just a child. The Jungle boat takes you on a fun ride throughout the jungle where you will see elephants, tribal natives, giraffes and even a waterfall.

7. Tom Sawyer Island–A great place to explore, get away from the crowds and let your little ones run! Tom Sawyer Island is also a great spot to have a picnic, there are picnic tables on the island and a small playground. There are also bathrooms and water fountains. *It is hard to push a stroller on the island as there are many caves, steps, etc. so I recommend using a baby carrier.

Tom Sawyer Island

6. Prince Charming Regal Carousel–This is a great photo op and a must do for children of all ages. Parents can stand and hold their children (there are buckles) and parents can even ride too.

Carousel

5. Peter Pan’s Flight–The wait is usually long for this ride so I suggest getting a fast pass. Peter Pan’s flight is a quick ride so don’t blink or you will miss it! It is worth the wait in my opinion, kids will feel like they are flying while riding this cute little iconic ride that tells the story of Peter Pan.

Peter Pan

4. Under The Sea With Little Mermaid

3. Magic Carpets of Aladdin–The carpets will seat 2 to 3 children per row, there are 2 rows per carpet. Our family takes up 1 whole carpet and I recommend having a parent sit in the front carpet so you can turn around and take your children’s picture on the carpet 🙂 You can control the carpet and make it go up high or down low. The children get a kick out of this. You might even get a spray of water from the camels!

2. Dumbo–The ride has been much improved with the new Fantasyland expansion and now the wait time has been cut in half. There is no height restriction on this ride and even my littlest one was able to ride at only 11 months old (of course a parent must hold little ones). Each Dumbo flies high in the sky for just a few minutes but this is such a classic Disney ride that children of all ages love it.

dumbo-the-flying-elephant-00

1. Buzz Lightyear Space Ranger Spin–This ride can be a little scary if your child is afraid of the dark, however, it is so much fun. Children really love the bright lights (neon) and the ability to shoot a lazer gun is the highlight of the ride for my children. You can control whether or not your spaceship spin’s around too which is neat. The wait times can be rather long for this ride, try to grab a fast pass and  while waiting go and meet Buzz himself – he is usually right outside of the ride area.

Exclusive Photos!! Be Our Guest Restaurant Testing FastPass+ Dining!

Published May 9, 2013 by Disneyways.com

Back in February we shared news that there would be periodic testing going on for My Magic+ testing at Be Our Guest!

Just the THOUGHT of this happening at Be Our Guest in New Fantasyland makes me happy!! Why? Because I believe they have some of the absolute BEST food in the Magic Kingdom.

I dream of having the grey stuff  often. Doesn’t everyone? In fact, below you will see a photo explaining the only reason I don’t eat at Be Our Guest every single time I see the gates!

Be Our guest LINE

Long lines! You can’t get reservations for lunch – it is walk-up only. Most people would say I am a patient person – but I really can’t stand waiting in line. Sure you can make  reservations for dinner (way in advance – if you are lucky). Here is what being lucky looks like:

But there is hope for everyone out there who is hungry and impatient like me! HOPE – in this case – came in the form of a little unassuming card today:

Solving the Mystery Surrounding the Rapunzel Tower in New Fantasyland: April 2013 Edition

Published April 12, 2013 by Disneyways.com

The beautiful new Rapunzel tower and restrooms have been revealed to us in New Fantasyland. It sounds crazy to say it but this facility is really a great new addition to the park and is becoming an attraction in itself.

If you aren’t familiar with the subject, please click HERE to read archived Disneyways posts. You’ll want to scroll all the way down and begin with the last post to read them in chronological order.

Recently I stumbled across some new information and thought you might be interested in reading it. I would love to hear your thoughts.

The following has been re-posted from JimHillMedia.com, and the opinions expressed belong soley to Jim Hill.

My Disney Experience delays are having a domino effect on several Magic Kingdom projects

“The best laid plans of mice and men often go astray.” This oft-quoted line from Robert Burns’ 1785 poem applies to an awful lot of aspects of modern day life. But none more so than the work that’s recently been done in & around WDW’s Magic Kingdom Park.

Take — for example — that “Tangled” -themed rest area that recently came online in Fantasyland. Even before this elaborately themed set of bathrooms were officially open to the public, some of the Mouse’s more vocal online critics were using this pair of potties as an excuse to once again go after Team Disney Orlando. Complaining about how ridiculous / wasteful it was for The Walt Disney Company to devote this much time, money and effort to theming a set of restrooms.

But here’s the thing: You know that area off to the left of the Rapunzel restrooms? Just past the “D-Zone” with its 6 charging stations where WDW Guests can now recharge their Droids, iPhones and other electronic devices for free? Did you notice that walkway alongside the garden that kind of leads to nowhere?

Which features this beauty spot where Rapunzel’s tower is in the background and a small waterfall is in the foreground?

Doesn’t it strike you odd that the Imagineers would go to all the trouble of creating such a pleasing visual in a part of the Magic Kingdom where few Guests would ever venture? If you spent all of this time & money creating such a beautiful “Tangled” -themed backdrop, wouldn’t you then at some point actually want to use it?

Well, that was the original plan, folks. This exact spot was where WDW visitors were supposed to go if they wanted to have their pictures taken with Rapunzel & Flynn Rider. Until Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom became too popular and then the My Disney Experience program fell behind schedule. Which is what causes the Imagineers to deviate from their original plans for this portion of that theme park.

Because — make no mistake, people — The Walt Disney Company knows all too well how popular the “Tangled” characters are with the public these days. Going strictly by retail sales, Rapunzel is the most popular Disney Princess to be introduced in decades (She’s right up there — from a merch point of view — with The Little Mermaid . And Ariel dolls been consistent sellers with little girls for almost a quarter of a century now). Which is why — in the late Summer / early Fall of 2011 — when word came down from Disney’s corporate headquarters that Rapunzel & Flynn Rider were going to have to vacate Fairytale Garden (You know? That elaborately themed character meet-and-greet area located just to the right of Cinderella Castle) so that Princess Merida of Pixar’s “Brave ” could then move in in the Spring of 2012 … Well, that caused some real consternation both at WDI as well as inside of WDW’s Character Department.

Interesting side note: That whole Scottish Highlands-retheming of the Fairytale Garden area (along with those three Audio Animatronic bear cubs) was paid for by Walt Disney Studios as part of the Company’s worldwide effort to promote the June 2012 theatrical release of Pixar’s “Brave.”

Anyway … Getting back to today’s story now … Given how popular Rapunzel & Flynn Rider were with Disney World visitors (More importantly, given that a family bathroom was already in the works for that quiet corner of the Magic Kingdom which the long defunct Fantasyland Skyway Station had been previously operated out of), a plan was put in motion to create WDW’s first-ever character-based restroom with an appropriately themed meet-and-greet area just off to the side. Blueprints were drawn up. Budgets were approved. Contracts were signed. Everything was good to go …

Meanwhile, the people who were prepping the My Disney Experience / MagicBands program for the theme parks realized that there were going to be a certain number of Guests every day in the Parks who weren’t going to have their Smart Phones or Droids with them OR were going to leave these electronic devices at home or back in their hotel rooms. Which meant that if these WDW visitors were looking to modify any of the ride times and/or dining reservations that they’d previously made, these people were then going to have to have access to some sort of My Disney Experience kiosk which would allow them to then make modifications to these reservations.

So the plan (at least far as the Magic Kingdom was concerned) was that there’d be initially be two sets of these kiosks built. One would be located towards the front of that theme park in the Town Square area of Main Street, U.S.A. While the other would be built deep inside of that theme park. To be specific, inside of the then-vacant Crow’s Nest storefront that Kodak used to operate in Adventureland just past Pirates of the Caribbean.

But then Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom debuted in February of 2012. And given how wildly popular this new interactive role-playing game quickly proved to be with WDW visitors, the managers of that theme park immediately decided that they needed a second interactive role-playing game to take some of the heat off of Sorcerers (More to the point, cut down on the number of 5-and-10-person-deep lines which were popping up all around the Park. Where Guests were patiently standing with their Sorcerer Key Card & Spell Cards in hand, waiting for their chance to do battle with various Disney Villains).

Which is why the “A Pirate’s Adventure: Treasures of the Seven Seas” interactive role-playing game was brought online. The only problem with this MK-based project was … Well, just as Disney World Guests needed a specific place inside of that theme park to go in order to sign up to play Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom, get issued their first set of Spell Cards and their Sorcerer Key (which — in this case — was inside of the Old Firehouse on Main Street, U.S.A. as well as behind the Ye Olde Christmas Shoppe in Liberty Square), “A Pirate’s Adventure: Treasure of the Seven Seas” was also going to need a headquarters / base-of-operations. Which Magic Kingdom managers eventually decided would be built inside of the Crow’s Nest.

And once that decision was made, the dominos began to fall all over that theme park. Since the Crow’s Nest was no longer available to house those My Disney Experience kiosks that WDW felt had to be located deep inside of that theme park … Given that an area where people could line up had already been designed into the site plan for the “Tangled” rest area, Magic Kingdom managers decided to move the location of those deep-in-the-park My Disney Experience kiosks over to this corner of Fantasyland. So they ordered that the necessary electrical & interactive terminal changes be made to the Rapunzel restrooms construction plans.

The only problem with doing that was now Magic Kingdom managers were concerned that if they had two lines going back in this corner of that theme park (i.e. one for Guests looking to change ride times & dinner reservations, while the other line was for people looking to get their photographs taken with Rapunzel & Flynn Rider), someone might then get confused and accidentally get on the wrong line. Which might then lead to a bad Guest experience. Which is something that Disney World always tries to avoid at all costs.

So — to prevent this from happening — Magic Kingdom managers decided to put the idea of having a Rapunzel & Flynn Rider meet-n-greet as part of this theme park’s “Tangled” -themed rest area on hold for a while. At least until the My Disney Experience program was up & running and WDW Officials could then gauge how many Guests were actually going to need access to interactive kiosks in order to make changes to their previously booked ride times and/or dining reservations.

Copyright Disney Enterprises, Inc. All rights reserved

Now never mind that the Imagineers had already planned to plant a colorful garden alongside the area where WDW Guests were supposed to stand & wait for their chance to meet-n-greet with Rapunzel & Flynn Rider. Or that — in order to help people pass the time as they stood in line — WDI had plans to hide Pascal statues all over that garden so these Disney World visitors could then search for this tiny chameleon while they waited.

Mind you, even though the Rapunzel & Flynn Rider meet-n-greet was now on hold, the Imagineers still went ahead with the construction of that garden and its “Hidden Pascal” decorative program. All with the hope that Magic Kingdom managers might eventually change their minds about this planned character greeting area for Fantasyland. And if they did, then all of the necessary supporting elements for a successful queue area for the Rapunzel & Flynn Rider meet-n-greet would already be in place.

Confused yet? Wait. It gets better. Because the in-park launch of My Disney Experience is now running months behind schedule, Magic Kingdom managers have now decided to put off their plans to install any of those interactive kiosks where Guests could then go to change their ride times and/or dinner reservations. But since this corner of Fantasyland is now wired to support computers and other electrical devices … Well, they didn’t want all of that wiring to go to waste. Which is why WDW officials turned this portion of the “Tangled” rest area into a “D-Zone.” Where — thanks to the 6 charging stations — Disney World visitors can now recharge their electronic devices for free.

Copyright Disney Enterprises, Inc. All rights reserved

Now please keep in mind that this “D-Zone” will only remain in place until the My Disney Experience program finally gets in gear again. And once that happens, these free charging stations will then be replaced by those now-delayed interactive kiosks.

And speaking of delays … Since My Disney Experience / MagicBands is now running behind schedule, WDW officials have now decided to push back the construction of some of those new Scene Ones which were supposed to be installed around the Magic Kingdom to help handle all of the Guests who will now waiting in longer lines for their chance to experience these newly enhanced Fast Pass Plus attractions. Which is why those bathrooms next to Peter Pan’s Flight (which were supposed to be demolished just as soon as the Rapunzel rest area opened to then make room for a newly expanded queue for this super-popular Fantasyland dark ride) are still standing. Mouse House managers just don’t want to proceed with this particular construction project until My Disney Experience / MagicBands is officially up and running.

Which — given that ” … the best-laid schemes o’ mice an ‘men gang aft agley” (FYI: That’s the way Burns — the proud Scott — originally wrote this line in his poem. The “often go astray” translation only came about when this poem was eventually Anglicized) — could be a while yet.
