Rise of the Resistance Review

Wow. As a Star Wars fan and a ride technology enthusiast, this ride had me in joyous tears. Beware, there be spoilers ahead!!!!The Queue….
For the grand opening, Disney implemented a virtual queue. Upon entering the park, you join your “boarding group” via the My Disney Experience App and are given a group number. When the number was called, guests were given two hours to check in for the ride. This was fantastic because it enabled us to enjoy the rest of the park (Droid Depot, anyone?) and then there was no major time pressure to access the ride on time. Once we entered the actual line, the wait was around 20 minutes until we reached the first pre show. The parts of the queue that we saw today were just as detailed as the Smuggler’s Run queue, my favorite part being the cages with the Resistance flight suits.

The first pre show…

BB-8!!!! He’s there rolling around in full BB-8 adorableness until we receive a transmission from Rey. I can NOT convey how amazing all of this looked. From this point on, you are INSIDE a Star Wars movie. Nothing has ever been as immersive.

The next pre show…

Guests are standing in a vehicle (which moves!) headed from Batuu to the other Galaxy’s Edge. Poe, Finn and several other characters make appearances with an incredibly lifelike Lt. Bek (who says the best thing, ever) driving the vehicle. But, oh no! Disaster! The First Order has found the vehicle and is taking everyone onboard as prisoners!!!!
After disembarking and being marched onto a First Order Star Destroyer, we were greeted with a breath-taking sight.

Two Stormtroopers stand watch as Resistance prisoners are moved to their holding cell inside the Rise of the Resistance ride at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
TIM WALTERS/FLORIDA TODAY

A horde of storm troopers, standing in formation, most of which are animatronic. This sight alone will bring the most die hard Star Wars fan to tears. Then as prisoners wait to be interrogated, they are formed into lines aboard the Star Destroyer. We waited in our designated area..: Kylo Ren made his first appearance and then… Huzzah! Escape! The Rebel Alliance has found us and has a plan!

Finally… The ACTUAL ride…

Man. I really don’t want to give too much of this away. We were transferred into a droid-operated ride vehicle which seats eight and is trackless. It’s similar to the Penguin ride at Sea World, but moves MUCH faster and in many different directions. With no track in place, it was impossible to anticipate which direction we would be going in next. And it is so smooth!!!! From here on out we encountered Kylo Ren in several different formats (hologram, animatronic) and felt as if we were in the middle of a battle. Blaster beams and canons are firing all around and we could never tell what would be happening next. Finally, we made it to safety in a simulator section with a sudden drop as we entered into space. (This is a free fall, similar to Tower of Terror, less intense.) Then we surprisingly ended outdoors!

I have not experienced so many different technologies combined with such an incredible story. The rides that come closest are probably Transformers or Forbidden Journey over at Universal. I know that I missed a TON and can’t wait to see it again. Bravo, Disney Imagineers. Job well done.

2019 UnMeeting Keynote with Disney Legend Tony Baxter and Michael Broggie

Published September 1, 2019 by Disneyways.com

Join me, won’t you? Let’s check out the keynote address of the Carolwood Society’s annual UnMeeting with Disney Legend, Walt Disney Imagineering Ambassador, and inaugural “Heart and Heritage” honoree, Tony Baxter together with Society Founder, Michael Broggie the morning of Friday, September 27, 2019 at the Disney Springs AMC 24 theater at the Walt Disney World Resort!

Catch our interview with Michael Broggie about this interview in podcast form HERE

Doors will open at 9:15 am and this address will begin promptly at 10:00 am.

When I first found out about this event, I skimmed over it, and assumed it would be held in California. Upon closer look – it’s happening right here in my backyard. I couldn’t be more excited. You read that right! You can catch this amazing panel in the Orlando area!! Event check in will be at the AMC Theater entrance near Splitsville (not the one near Planet Hollywood) and parking in the Orange garage is suggested.

Society member seating is SOLD OUT but general admission tickets are still available HERE. General admission tickets ($35) are available to all who are interested in attending and can be accessed from this page. And every attendee will be provided with popcorn and a beverage!

Even if you (not unlike myself) don’t think trains are “your thing”, this event promises to give us all a charming insight into what was such an important part of Walt’s life. I spoke to Jim VanOstenbridge – the event organizer. He explained to me in great detail that he hopes this meeting will be a stepping stone to more frequent Carolwood Society events. He’s inspired by monthly meetings that are happening at Walt’s Barn in California.

“Animators, Imagineers, historians, authors, Disney Legends, and fans come to Walt’s Barn to enjoy each other’s company, but really, it’s to spend time with Walt Disney. Diane Disney Miller, on the barn’s dedication in Griffith Park highlighted that “our heart and heritage are here in this place”. So, that’s what I’m hoping this group will evolve into. Not just a group that assembles with railroad interest, but one that celebrates the path that led to and through the barn and those who carry the torch to this day.”

Jim says he wants to do it in a way that helps bring people together in a real and genuine way. Who wouldn’t want to support that?? Let’s get in on the ground floor, together. All Aboard!!

More on Tony Baxter: This is a great opportunity to learn about the design and creation of the range of Big Thunder Mountains at Disney Parks around the world from Tony Baxter, the man who brought them to life!Throughout Tony’s 47 year career at Walt Disney Imagineering he made numerous contributions and offered guidance and leadership that is evident at Disney Parks the world over. Among his best known achievements is Big Thunder Mountain Railroad. Join us to hear the story of how this attraction came to life and how the distinct characteristics of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, and Disneyland Paris helped to make each one of these attractions remarkable in it’s own right.

More on Michael Broggie: Micheal has been featured in our series DISNEYWAYS MAGICAL SPOTLIGHTS: DISNEY LUMINARIES  You can read about him in great detail HERE!

New Series! Disneyways Magical Spotlights: Disney Luminaries

These blog posts will be just one aspect of “Disneyways Magical Spotlights: Disney Luminaries” with our ultimate goal being to bring you closer to each Disney celebrity – in the form of several magical layers and multi-media experiences. In the sea of Disney fan media out there – my vision is to bring you an experience you won’t get any place else.

You might be asking yourself – how is this even possible?

Well, many of our spotlighted luminaries are in the business of making dreams come true. Many have been doing it for decades. And then … there’s me. Disneyways treasures you won’t find any place else. I will be adding my own special Krista Joy “magic” to each magical spotlight feature.

I will have the goal in mind of helping you to feel like you know each luminary personally – through the multiple magical layers we will bring you. It is critical for Disney fans to be aware of these amazing people and learn more about them, because they contribute so much to the Disney magic that we enjoy today. The stories of who they are and why – are just fascinating – and that’s an added bonus!

Other magical spotlight layers on these famous Disney Legends, authors, voices and more (many I call friends of mine) will include:

Video Interviews

DVD Documentaries through our partners at ThemeParkology.com

Personal Audio Interviews (on air with Krista) for our global online radio show “Living The Dream Podcast” with syndication on other broadcasts coming soon….

and even LIVE EVENTS.

Sometimes it will be events that I am hosting, sometimes it will be news on events you and I may both attend as guests. I want you to meet the luminaries in person so you can start your own “Wall of Fame.” There’s even talk of cruises, musical concerts and more. I hope you can join me for it all, but even when things don’t fit in your schedule to be there in person, I will offer you live coverage whenever possible, so it feels like you are right there. Let the “Disneyways Magical Spotlights: Disney Luminaries” series begin…and in the words of Walt Disney may “all who come to this happy place… welcome.”

SNEAK PEEK! 2019 H2O Glow Nights at Typhoon Lagoon Water Park Shows You The Glow

Published May 29, 2019 by Disneyways.com

Well I’m super excited I FINALLY found someone to go with me… to the first ever H2O GLOW NIGHT (for 2019 anyhow!) at Typhoon Lagoon!! Thank you Mariel  – for being my “date” tonight – you’re a real pal. I am ready to get my glow on – how about you? These H2O glow nights started in 2018 but the 2019 season won’t open to the public until tomorrow, May 30th 2019!!

Toy Story 4 is coming out soon so there will be lots of promotion for that. There was even talk of “FORKY” appearing… as an inflatable? Weird, I know … but that is the word on the streets.

FORKY from Toy Story 4

Watch my social media tonight for more on that. Links to everything are HERE.

I did a TON of research and am presenting you with my favorite tips. This is the stuff I am looking forward to, gathered all for you!  I am very nervous… as I really have no idea what to expect. I have never been to Typhoon Lagoon (GASP!!… I know… can you believe it?? Just no desire to go!) For the first time in probably 15 years…I bought a brand new swimsuit for the occasion.  Watch for me in the videos and pics coming to Disney Parks Blog. Honestly, I think it is the idea of going under the veil of darkness that sounds very appealing to me!  I wanted to share what I have learned about all this, so far, in case you were wondering about it too. So now YOU can be “in the know”!

IN SHORT…
H20 Glow Nights happen Every Thursday and Saturday from May 30 through August 24, 2019—except for June 20 and are full of Toy Story fun.
These parties last from 8:00 PM to 11:00 PM (Guests with event tickets may arrive early, beginning at 6:00 PM) There will be magical food, dessert and drink offerings! Full plates of dinner-type food and other stuff. Check it all out HERE.  Tickets are $59 per person plus tax for adults and $54 per person plus tax for children ages 3 to 9, when purchased in advance. On the days of the event, the ticket price will be $69 per person plus tax for adults and $64 per person plus tax for children. Tickets are not required for children under age 3. Nifty food and drink offerings will all (of course) cost extra!

THE PERKS!
This extra ticket event features glow-in-the-dark fun after the sun goes down with shorter wait times for the park’s waterslides and a DJ dance party.

Special effects lighting will once again transform the park.

Buzz Lightyear, Woody and Jessie will all be there for some character meet-and-greets in case you don’t catch them at Toy Story Land. We are talking wait times as low as 10 minutes!

ADULTS ONLY special party area called The Wharf, where you can enjoy entertainment and adult libations (for an extra charge).

Bathtub Party Sundae ©Disney

OH MY GOODNESS– The Bathtub Party Sundae (are you kidding me? This sounds amazing!)) Vanilla ice cream, confetti cake, whipped cream, and chocolate rubber ducks topped with sprinkles and served in a novelty bathtub dish. (Side note: if you are obsessed with Disney Food like I am… be sure to click my link to Disney Food Blog Guide on our menu – to the right of this page! If you purchase one of the online guides through my link – DFB sends me a portion of the proceeds. It doesn’t cost you extra – in fact there are sales and discounts going all the time!)

Party capacity is limited, and the low crowds in the park will be a huge plus. Shorter lines!!

Character Fun!! Because of the short lines -characters spend more time interacting.

Exclusive new merchandise collection includes a glow-in-the-dark T-shirt and a Tervis tumbler and features artwork inspired by the event.

You get plenty of party time to experience all the exclusives offered.

VIP feel (yeah… give me some of that!)

Favorite TIPS!!

Make the most of your ticket and arrive when “doors open” at 6 p.m. While the party doesn’t officially start until 8 p.m., so this gives you a head start on rides.

It is suggested that you separate your night into wet and dry. Stow your suits in a locker while you eat dinner and mingle with characters. Keep your phone or camera with you for pictures throughout the DRY fun. Then go back to the locker to return stuff, change, and get WET!

Don’t forget to wear your MagicBand if you want to visit photopass photographers.  Yep MagicBands are waterproof, however I would suggest securing it with a rubber band or one of those little belts you can buy for them now.  If you don’t have a MagicBand, no worries, the photographer will give you a PhotoPass card you can wear around your wrist. This sounds like a great idea for the regular parks too – so hold on to it for another day!

Here’s what “official” Disney has to say:

“With glowing beach balls, inner tubes and other lighting effects, Disney H2O Glow Nights is a rare opportunity for Guests to experience Typhoon Lagoon under the moonlight. On select nights beginning May 30, 2019, Typhoon Lagoon becomes a luminous, nighttime hotspot featuring a DJ Dance Party on the beach, plus special character meetings with Buzz, Woody and Jessie from Pixar’s “Toy Story,” as they visit Typhoon Lagoon for the first time. And let’s not forget about the host, Partysaurus Rex, who is inviting Guests to this one-of-a-kind experience.

Guests can also play party games, try unique food and beverage treats and enjoy all attractions at the water park with minimal wait times, including Crush ‘n’ Gusher, a thrilling water coaster and Miss Adventure Falls, the newest attraction at Typhoon Lagoon.

While the kids are splashing about, adults can visit The Wharf. This adults-only oasis is unique to Disney H2O Glow Nights and is only available when Typhoon Lagoon transforms at nightfall.

I’ll be posting my thoughts on social media – for sure. Leave me a question, thought or comment on facebook or right here. OK DISNEY… SHOW ME THE GLOW!!!!

Momosa Publishing LLC to proudly support Lakeview Elementary “Literacy Luau” in St. Cloud Florida on Jan. 26

Published January 23, 2019 by Disneyways.com

Momosa Publishing LLC (Momosa Publishing), one of the United States’ leading publishers of health, parenting, inspiration, and children’s books, is proud to announce its donation of 25 books to the Literary Luau at Lakeview Elementary on January 26, 2019.

Momosa Publishing marketing director Krista Joy has a close connection to this special event. She manages the career of well-known local entertainer Peter Alden, whose adopted son Gabriel Grigsby’s courageous battle with rare genetic brain disorder Adrenoleukodystrophy (ALD) led to the family’s quest to add ALD to the list of newborn screenings in Florida.

ALD affects 1 in 18,000 people, primarily boys and some men. It destroys the protective sheath that surrounds the brain’s neurons — the nerve cells that allow us to think and to control our muscles. Championed by State Rep. Mike La Rosa (R-St. Cloud) for years, the ALD screening requirement became state law in May 2018 in honor and memory of Gabriel, who was 10 when he passed away in July 2013. It is a fitting legacy for the brave boy who fought against such tragic circumstances.

Gabriel attended Lakeview Elementary and the organizer, Stephanie Walcott was his favorite teacher. Gabriel’s father, Peter Alden, will perform a 15 minute set of songs from the film “Blue Hawaii” at the Literacy Luau. Peter Alden is a veteran of the Legends in Concert Stage and a full-time entertainer.

“Giving back to our communities is so much a part of who we are,” Momosa Publishing co-founder and editorial director Jennifer Reich said. “Krista’s relationship with Peter Alden – and his efforts to add ALD to the screening protocol – along with our ties to Florida and Orlando in particular – make our team a strong supporter of the event. We couldn’t be happier to participate in the Lakeview Elementary Literacy Luau.”

To kick off Literacy Week, Lakeview Elementary will have the Literacy Luau on January 26, 2019 from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm. This event will have many Hawaiian themed literacy activities, a book fair, and an opportunity to meet an author. The school will have community members including; Orlando City Soccer and Wonderworks passing out books to students. Families have an opportunity to read together in our butterfly garden and watch the special guest performances on stage. It will be a day filled with reading, learning, and fun!

Momosa Publishing’s mission of helping people raise healthier, happier families is rooted in its commitment to children. Along with its trademark Mommy MD Guides series of advice on children’s health from the country’s leading doctor moms, the firm has published a number of other child-centered books.

Reich’s two sons, Tyler, 13, and Austin, 11, collaborated on a series of enchanting stories of animals exploring the Magic Kingdom. Launched in August 2017, the “Adventures of the Real Animals in the Most Magical Place on Earth” children’s book series tells the stories of the real live animals that make their home in the most magical place on Earth. At the event, Joy will read a portion of the first book in the series, “The Adventures of the Rabbits in the Most Magical Place on Earth” and present Momosa Publishing’s donation of 25 books.

The series, which also includes “The Adventures of the Squirrels in the Most Magical Place on Earth” – the story of Sammy Squirrel and his family AND “The Adventures of the Lions in the Most Magical Place on Earth”, the story of Daniel the lion and his family – is available on Amazon and everywhere books are sold.
