SNEAK PEEK! 2019 H2O Glow Nights at Typhoon Lagoon Water Park Shows You The Glow

Published May 29, 2019 by Disneyways.com

Well I’m super excited I FINALLY found someone to go with me… to the first ever H2O GLOW NIGHT (for 2019 anyhow!) at Typhoon Lagoon!! Thank you Mariel  – for being my “date” tonight – you’re a real pal. I am ready to get my glow on – how about you? These H2O glow nights started in 2018 but the 2019 season won’t open to the public until tomorrow, May 30th 2019!!

Toy Story 4 is coming out soon so there will be lots of promotion for that. There was even talk of “FORKY” appearing… as an inflatable? Weird, I know … but that is the word on the streets.

FORKY from Toy Story 4

Watch my social media tonight for more on that. Links to everything are HERE.

I did a TON of research and am presenting you with my favorite tips. This is the stuff I am looking forward to, gathered all for you!  I am very nervous… as I really have no idea what to expect. I have never been to Typhoon Lagoon (GASP!!… I know… can you believe it?? Just no desire to go!) For the first time in probably 15 years…I bought a brand new swimsuit for the occasion.  Watch for me in the videos and pics coming to Disney Parks Blog. Honestly, I think it is the idea of going under the veil of darkness that sounds very appealing to me!  I wanted to share what I have learned about all this, so far, in case you were wondering about it too. So now YOU can be “in the know”!

IN SHORT…
H20 Glow Nights happen Every Thursday and Saturday from May 30 through August 24, 2019—except for June 20 and are full of Toy Story fun.
These parties last from 8:00 PM to 11:00 PM (Guests with event tickets may arrive early, beginning at 6:00 PM) There will be magical food, dessert and drink offerings! Full plates of dinner-type food and other stuff. Check it all out HERE.  Tickets are $59 per person plus tax for adults and $54 per person plus tax for children ages 3 to 9, when purchased in advance. On the days of the event, the ticket price will be $69 per person plus tax for adults and $64 per person plus tax for children. Tickets are not required for children under age 3. Nifty food and drink offerings will all (of course) cost extra!

THE PERKS!
This extra ticket event features glow-in-the-dark fun after the sun goes down with shorter wait times for the park’s waterslides and a DJ dance party.

Special effects lighting will once again transform the park.

Buzz Lightyear, Woody and Jessie will all be there for some character meet-and-greets in case you don’t catch them at Toy Story Land. We are talking wait times as low as 10 minutes!

ADULTS ONLY special party area called The Wharf, where you can enjoy entertainment and adult libations (for an extra charge).

Bathtub Party Sundae ©Disney

OH MY GOODNESS– The Bathtub Party Sundae (are you kidding me? This sounds amazing!)) Vanilla ice cream, confetti cake, whipped cream, and chocolate rubber ducks topped with sprinkles and served in a novelty bathtub dish. (Side note: if you are obsessed with Disney Food like I am… be sure to click my link to Disney Food Blog Guide on our menu – to the right of this page! If you purchase one of the online guides through my link – DFB sends me a portion of the proceeds. It doesn’t cost you extra – in fact there are sales and discounts going all the time!)

Party capacity is limited, and the low crowds in the park will be a huge plus. Shorter lines!!

Character Fun!! Because of the short lines -characters spend more time interacting.

Exclusive new merchandise collection includes a glow-in-the-dark T-shirt and a Tervis tumbler and features artwork inspired by the event.

You get plenty of party time to experience all the exclusives offered.

VIP feel (yeah… give me some of that!)

Favorite TIPS!!

Make the most of your ticket and arrive when “doors open” at 6 p.m. While the party doesn’t officially start until 8 p.m., so this gives you a head start on rides.

It is suggested that you separate your night into wet and dry. Stow your suits in a locker while you eat dinner and mingle with characters. Keep your phone or camera with you for pictures throughout the DRY fun. Then go back to the locker to return stuff, change, and get WET!

Don’t forget to wear your MagicBand if you want to visit photopass photographers.  Yep MagicBands are waterproof, however I would suggest securing it with a rubber band or one of those little belts you can buy for them now.  If you don’t have a MagicBand, no worries, the photographer will give you a PhotoPass card you can wear around your wrist. This sounds like a great idea for the regular parks too – so hold on to it for another day!

Here’s what “official” Disney has to say:

“With glowing beach balls, inner tubes and other lighting effects, Disney H2O Glow Nights is a rare opportunity for Guests to experience Typhoon Lagoon under the moonlight. On select nights beginning May 30, 2019, Typhoon Lagoon becomes a luminous, nighttime hotspot featuring a DJ Dance Party on the beach, plus special character meetings with Buzz, Woody and Jessie from Pixar’s “Toy Story,” as they visit Typhoon Lagoon for the first time. And let’s not forget about the host, Partysaurus Rex, who is inviting Guests to this one-of-a-kind experience.

Guests can also play party games, try unique food and beverage treats and enjoy all attractions at the water park with minimal wait times, including Crush ‘n’ Gusher, a thrilling water coaster and Miss Adventure Falls, the newest attraction at Typhoon Lagoon.

While the kids are splashing about, adults can visit The Wharf. This adults-only oasis is unique to Disney H2O Glow Nights and is only available when Typhoon Lagoon transforms at nightfall.

I’ll be posting my thoughts on social media – for sure. Leave me a question, thought or comment on facebook or right here. OK DISNEY… SHOW ME THE GLOW!!!!

5 Tips for Celebrating a Special Occasion at Walt Disney World ~ by Guest Author James Hare

Published January 26, 2017 by Disneyways.com

5 Tips for Celebrating a Special Occasion at Walt Disney World by Guest Author James Hare

According to the 2015 Global Attraction Attendance Report published annually by the Themed Entertainment Association, over 173 million people passed through the turnstiles at Disney Parks around the world. A lot of those people visited to celebrate a special occasion. Whether it’s a birthday or an anniversary, or even a family reunion, there is a lot of reasons to celebrate at Walt Disney World.

While there are no set rules about planning your special occasion at Disney World, you’ll want to remember these top 5 tips to get a head start on your celebration.

5. Grab some free celebration buttons

Over the years, Disney have given out free buttons for guests to wear while celebrating their special occasion.

Disney celebration buttons are completely free and can be picked up from many stores around Walt Disney World. However, your best bet for getting one is to visit the front desk at your resort hotel or Guest Services at any park.

The special events that you can currently get a celebration button for are:

  • Just Married
  • Happy Anniversary
  • Family Reunion
  • Just Engaged
  • 1st Visit
  • My Magical Triumph
  • Happily Ever After
  • I’m Celebrating [fill in the blank]
  • Happy Birthday.

One of the biggest reasons to wear a celebration button is that Cast Members at the parks will look out for them and wish you a “happy birthday” or congratulate you on your engagement. Although nothing is guaranteed, I have often received a complimentary cookie from certain vendors on my birthday. These buttons are certainly a must for your special occasion at Walt Disney World!

4. Note it on your reservations

Whenever you make a reservation for anything at Walt Disney World, have the Cast Member make a note about your special occasion. If you make a note of it on your resort hotel reservation, you may be surprised by balloons awaiting you when you check into your room. Likewise, if you let your server know that someone is celebrating their birthday, that person is very likely to be given a small complimentary dessert after their meal.

Walt used to call this “plussing” the guest experience. If you were impressed by a certain aspect of his park, he was always looking for ways to make it even better so that you return again and again.

3. Send flowers for a romantic occasion

A lot of people do not know this, but Disney actually have their own Floral Service.

If you’re celebrating a romantic occasion, such as a honeymoon or anniversary, you can purchase a beautiful arrangement of flowers for your sweetheart.

You can even set up a specific place on property for them to be delivered so that your significant other will not suspect a thing!

2. Host a birthday party with in-room celebrations

For guests celebrating a birthday at one of the many resort hotels, you can surprise your child with an in-room celebration.

The basic birthday package includes personalized Mickey Mouse ears, a chalkboard shaped like Mickey’s ears for them to write on, two Mickey & friends themed Happy Birthday balloons, a specialty cake plus tons of other goodies and treats.

There are more essential tips here that you’ll want to read if you are planning a birthday at Walt Disney World.

1. Make use of Disney’s Memory Maker

Memory Maker is a great add-on option for Disney’s PhotoPass.

For an additional fee, guests get a digital download of every single photo taken in the parks and on participating attractions. You will also get on-ride videos from rides such as the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train and Tower of Terror. You are completely free to print the photos from home, or at a local printer, and you can also use the images on third party services (such as Shutterfly).

The thing that I enjoy most about Memory Maker is that it is a set it and forget it system. All you have to do is wear your Magic Band and the PhotoPass Cast Member will add all the photos and video directly to your account.

I want to hear from you!

Newly Updated Pirate’s Adventure in Magic Kingdom

Published September 29, 2016 by ltdjosh

Three years ago, Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom introduced an interactive quest for guests of all ages. The name of the quest was “A Pirate’s Adventure: Treasure Of The Seven Seas”. Over the years, thousands of wee pirate lads and lassies (as well as a few buccaneers) have enjoyed scavenging around Adventureland to find clues and solve the mystery of the adventure. A few months ago, Disney announced an addition to the adventure. Let’s take a look at one of the adventures, as well as the new surprise ending awaiting guests.

20160710_090014
The building where you sign up for the Pirate’s Adventure is next to Pirate’s Of The Caribbean, towards Splash Mountain. It’s an unassuming building that most people just quickly walk by, perhaps thinking it’s a food vendor or something of that nature. However, once you walk inside, your fate be forever changed. There are 5 different adventures you can choose. Once you’ve chosen your adventure, simply scan your magicband (or your park ticket) and the on screen guide will tell you what mark on your map to go to first. For this demonstration, I chose the Guardian’s Curse adventure. Once I scanned in, I was off on an adventure I won’t soon forget.

20160710_090137
For each adventure, you receive a treasure map telling you roughly were to go to find your clue. Once you reach the area, you have to find the symbol listed on your map. When you touch your magicband (or ticket) to the symbol, something magical will happen in the immediate area that will tell you where to go next. You never know what you’ll find. First up, the compass symbol.

20160710_090248

This symbol seemed easy enough to find. Look for a treasure chest, a lantern, and a map on top of an old crate. Then find the symbol. Well, there are a lot of crates around. Thankfully, I found my symbol.

20160710_090217

The next symbol that I was to find was the bulls eye symbol. This one proved even trickier to find, but I kept a sharp eye out and sure enough, found what I was looking for on top of a barrel (perhaps filled with rum for Captain Jack Sparrow?).

20160710_090450

Next up, I had to search for a parrot symbol. Since I knew there were parrots all over Adventureland, it took me a few minutes to find the right parrot (and the matching symbol).

20160710_090551
However, I found the tricky bird.

20160710_090942

And his symbol.

20160710_090929

I was getting excited. This was fun, and it didn’t take that long to do. Plus it was a great way to spend a very quiet morning in Adventureland. Off to the next symbol: A captain’s hat.

20160710_091055

A few moments later, I had found the blasted hat.

20160710_091155

I had won the adventure, but this odd pirate came up out of his watery grave to tell me that I should continue my quest for more treasures.

20160710_091216

Since it had taken me less than 10 minutes to complete the entire adventure, I decided that I would try, as my Pokemon Go friends would say, to “catch them all”. At the end of the 3rd adventure, I was dealt a pleasant surprise: a complimentary fastpass for Pirate’s Of The Caribbean.

20160710_085910

This wasn’t time stamped, but date stamped, good through the end of the month any time the ride was operating. I then went on my way continuing adventures, and received another at the end of my 4th adventure, and another at the end of my 5th adventure. An hours worth of work searching all over Adventureland (and seeing things that I had never noticed before) and I had 3 free legacy fastpasses to use anytime over the course of the next 2 weeks.

20160627_084101

If you’re in the area and have some free time, I definitely encourage you to take the challenge and enjoy the Pirate’s Adventure: Treasures Of The Seven Seas. You won’t be disappointed.

Top 5 Special Things To Do At Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party 2015

Published November 14, 2015 by ltdjosh

christmascastleupclosejosh

We’ve all seen pictures and video of Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom done up for the holidays…the sights, the sounds, the merriment. But, sometimes the holidays can be a bit overwhelming, especially if you’re a first time visitor. So here are my top 5 special things to do at Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party in the Magic Kingdom. These are in no particular order, but I hope they help you to get the most out of your Christmas Party trip.

  1. Special Character Interactions – Most of us know that Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party and Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party are special times for character interactions, and this year is no different. In addition to all 7 dwarfs (whom you will only see during parties) and the princes with their princesses, you also will have the chance to see Sandy Claws, Reindeer & Elf, and even the jolly man himself, Santa! Obviously these characters are never guaranteed, but it’s a good chance to try to catch them in between parades. You can also catch special character interactions at the Totally Tomorrowland Christmas party at Rockettower Plaza Stage in Tomorrowland and the Character Dance Party at Club Tinsel (Cosmic Ray’s Starlight Cafe in Tomorrowland). You can also join in the fun at Celebrate The Season – a special holiday stage show held three times an evening in front of Cinderella Castle.
  2. Complimentary Holiday Treats – Don’t say Disney never gives anything away for free! At several locations throughout the Magic Kingdom, you can stop in for complimentary hot cocoa and cookies (there are healthy options available too). These treats make for an extra magical time, especially if you stand on Main Street and enjoy them during the parade (it will snow during parts of the parade to add even more magic).
  3. Mickey’s Once Upon A Christmastime Parade – this holiday favorite is back and better than ever this year. Join Mickey and Minnie and all the gang as they welcome the holidays in a super festive and fun parade. This is another chance to see some of the more rare characters, such as Clarabelle Cow and Horace. The parade ends, like any good holiday parade, with a special appearance by the man of the hour, Santa Claus!
  4. A Frozen Holiday Wish – Join Anna, Elsa, Kristoff, and Olaf as they bring in the holidays with a little bit of twinkling ice on Cinderella Castle. Held twice an evening, this special castle lighting ceremony is NOT to be missed.
  5. Celebrate The Magic & Holiday Wishes – Be amazed as Cinderella Castle is transformed into a dazzling display of color and magic, showcasing breath-taking lighting effects and a brilliant musical score incorporating some of your most beloved Disney tunes. Then stick around as the skies above Cinderella Castle come to life with the most magical holiday fireworks presentation ever. You might even catch a glimpse of Jolly Old St. Nicholas and his team of reindeer as they fly high over Magic Kingdom.
  6. BONUS – VoicePlay – new to Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party this year is VoicePlay – an amazing and astounding acoustic marvel. Bringing together beautiful harmonies and classic Christmas songs, this a cappella holiday concert is sure to delight guests of all ages.

These are just a few of the many things that you can enjoy during Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party this year. For more information, check out the following park maps, which will tell you all of the locations for everything during the party.

Top 5 Reasons To Use A Vacation Planner

Published October 7, 2015 by ltdjosh

Most people make vacation plans all on their own, with just help from their families. They decide where they’re going, when they’re going, how much they’re spending, etc. While that’s fine when it’s a family vacation to the beach to sit around and do nothing, things can get much trickier when you decide on a destination vacation, such as Walt Disney World or any other major theme park. The mere thought of planning a Disney vacation can make even the most travel savvy person curl up into a ball and cry. Trust me, I know. I’ve been there. My first trip to Walt Disney World was supposed to be a surprise for my brother and I and, as such, my parents (mainly my mother) did all of the planning on her own. We didn’t know much about Walt Disney World (my parents hadn’t been since before EPCOT opened), and once we found out we were too deliriously happy to really think much about the planning that it would involve. We just decided to wing it and see and do whatever we could. The week that we were there was the last week of the Main Street Electrical Parade (one of my favorite parades of all time) and it was also Spring Break for much of the country. Luckily the crowds were a bit on the smaller side due to the weather (it rained extremely hard one day and was miserably cold). Little did I know that this trip would cement my love of Disney for the rest of my life.

Fast forward several years, and now I’m “living the dream” by living in Orlando. I spend a lot of time at all of the parks, including Universal and Sea World. With each passing day I realize how much we missed on that first trip simply because we weren’t prepared. It is in this spirit that I became a travel agent specializing in Disney vacations. In doing so, I learned how I can personally help people get the most out of their Disney vacations, all while educating them at the same time. So here I share my top 5 reasons for using a travel agent/vacation planner that specializes in Disney. These are in no particular order (except the last and best one), and I’ll hope they help you realize how much you have to gain with this advice.

Number 1: They do as much (or as little) of the planning as you need.
Disney-centric travel agents spend a lot of time getting to know their products. We all have to go through a program known as the “College of Disney Knowledge”. This program is designed by Disney to familiarize travel agents with every aspect of the Walt Disney Travel Company, from the parks to the cruise line, Adventures by Disney, and even Aulani, the Disney resort & spa in Hawaii. Agents have access to a special website exclusively for travel agents with up-to-the-minute updates from everything in the Disney travel family. We regularly get e-mails from Disney telling us whenever they launch a new feature at one of their destinations. And agents regularly visit these amazing destinations, each time focusing on new things that they can help their clients with. We plan everything, from fastpass+ reservations, to dining reservations, and even those hard to get photo opportunities. Leave the planning to us, and you won’t have to worry about a thing, except being where you need to be – with your family.

Number 2: They stay connected with you from start to finish.
When you book a vacation through a big name travel agency such as AAA, you get great customer service…when you book. However, once you’ve booked your vacation, you’re on your own and for the most part don’t hear from that agent again (unless they’re trying to sell you something else). However, when you book with an independent agent that specializes in Disney, you get a world-class “bedside manner” type of relationship with your agent. We go above and beyond throughout every process of your vacation, from the initial inquiry all the way through your return home (as a matter of fact, 99% of us will continue to communicate with you just to make sure everything was as magical as you hoped). There’s nothing that makes us happier than to receive a letter or e-mail from a client stating that their vacation was more than they ever could have dreamed of. That’s our job. We are “magic makers”, which is why so few of us have a traditional “travel agent” name (for instance, I’m a Dream Designer. I’ve heard other agencies use similar and unique terms, but very rarely do I hear travel agent as a title).

Number 3: World Class Concierge Service.
Each agency is different, but they all offer one very similar service: World Class Concierge Service. What this means is that your agent is there with you every step of the way, anticipating your needs and making everything possible happen for your vacation. Like I said before, these agents are very knowledgeable in the destinations they represent, and nothing gives us greater pleasure to talk to a client that thought they couldn’t get a certain fastpass or dining reservation, only to see it magically appear before their eyes. From welcome letters in your guest room, to a special “Happy Birthday” wake-up call from Mickey Mouse himself, agents will go above and beyond for their clients. I can only speak for myself here, but I imagine this same sentiment applies to all fellow agents: I give each client vacation a level of service even higher than I would expect on my vacation. These are not simply client’s vacations; these are my friends’ vacations. I want them to feel my personal touches everywhere they look. I want them to realize the extra level of service they can only find with an agent that specializes in Disney. I want them to enjoy that world class concierge service.

Number 4: You’ve got questions, I’ve got answers.
It thrills me to be so knowledgeable about Disney, because it helps me to be a better agent. If you’ve got a question about something, ask away. Chances are I know the answer to the question. However, if I don’t, I’ll make sure to get it. AND I will always verify it before I answer you, to make sure it is the most correct answer. You have a 4 year old that loves dinosaurs, but is afraid of the dark? I’ve got the perfect place for you to take him: an incredible pre-historic dino-dig located in Dinoland USA in Disney’s Animal Kingdom. He’ll have loads of fun on a humongous playground complete with dinosaur fossils hidden throughout the area for him to find. And it’s a great place for mom and dad to sit down and breathe for a minute during the hectic day. Want to know what the best restaurant is for a picky eater that loves Mickey? Absolutely. Try Chef Mickey’s Character Breakfast at Disney’s Contemporary Resort. This amazing all-you-can-eat buffet is full of tantalizing food choices and chock full of characters, including Chef Mickey himself. Want to know what time the 3 o’clock parade is? (Don’t laugh, this is one of the most asked questions to Magic Kingdom cast members every single day) It is at 3:00pm daily, weather permitting (it may be delayed or changed to the Rainy Day Cavalcade due to weather – or on rare occasions cancelled completely). Be sure to check your guidemaps for viewing locations. I’m also fantastic at making recommendations, since I spent so much time in the parks. You can tell me a ride at another theme park that your children loved and I’ll find a similar ride at Disney. Love a particular place but want to visit it with a Disney twist? I can find a Disney Cruise Line or Adventures by Disney itinerary that’s similar or in the same location.

Number 5: We’re always watching.
Cue the creepy music. Actually, I’m referring to price watching. We are always on the look-out for new and exciting offers that will help save you money during your trip. For instance, free dining from Walt Disney World. This offer pops up once or twice a year and is always a hotly discussed discount. Agents usually find out just a few days before (sometimes we don’t even know until the day before) that Disney is releasing it’s free dining for certain packages and certain dates. At 6am on the day the promotion starts, thousands of agents from around the world sit on hold for HOURS on end to switch their clients’ reservations over to reflect the free dining discount. Some of us will actually go online and run the same quote with free dining that we currently have, to see if it does actually save the client money. Sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn’t. If it does, we’ll call and get everything changed over for the client and then call them and tell them the wonderful news that we just saved them $300 on their vacation (or whatever the actual savings are). If you book directly through Disney or through a major travel agency like AAA, you’re stuck with your reservation the way that it is. This is again just another small service we offer to make sure our clients get the best vacation at the best deal possible. We actually enjoy spending hours on the phone waiting, just to save you money! Why? Because we’d want the same thing done for us if we were traveling.

BONUS #6: This tip is the best of all. ALL OF MY SERVICES ARE 100% FREE!!!!!
Yes, you heard that right. My world-class concierge services are 100% FREE. Every destination I sell has a commission already built into their rates, regardless if you book online or through an agent. If you book through Disney’s website, they get the commission. If you book through me, I get it. BUT, you still pay the same price as if you’d went through Disney. The real difference between booking through them and booking through an agent like me is the level of service after the sale you receive: that world-class concierge service. I’m not happy until you’re happy. One of the most unique things about this service is the way in which agents get paid. We don’t get our commission payments until after you have traveled. This allows us to really focus on making sure that you have the best vacation possible. We really do earn our keep, as my father would say. I genuinely feel like I’ve failed if a guest doesn’t book with me again, because it means that I didn’t provide that amazing level of service. More than anything, I cherish the handwritten notes I receive from my clients, thanking me for my service and professionalism. When you initially contact me for a quote, you may be a stranger, but by the time you return from your trip, you’re part of my family. And you can count on that level of service every time you book with a vacation planner like me.
