Movie Review: Disney’s Tomorrowland

Published May 22, 2015 by Disneyways.com

Ever since I first heard about this movie at the D23 event back in November – I could NOT wait to see it. Since then, they have started showing previews inside the Imagination theater in Epcot! If you are in the parks – be sure to check out this preview in 4D!

This amazing Disney movie from Brad Bird is a mystery adventure starring George Clooney. Even if you think you have seen George Clooney – you may never have seen him like this. He is funny, and surprisingly endearing. He really made the character of Frank come alive.

The story goes that a former boy-genius Frank (Clooney), who is now a bit angry and disillusioned, and Casey (Britt Robertson), a bright, optimistic teen bursting with curiosity about science, embark on a danger-filled mission to unearth the secrets of an enigmatic place somewhere in time and space known only as “Tomorrowland.” What they must do there changes the world—and them—forever.

This movie is BEAUTIFUL – visually appealing in ways I never could have imagined. Go see it in theaters if you can to really get what I am talking about here! In short – I loved it – and I would totally go see it again. Tune in to the Disney Parks Podcast for a full review from Tony and myself.

Don’t forget that the official Tomorrowland App with Apple Watch integration is now available to download HERE!

Memento Mori- A Store Dedicated to All Things Haunted Mansion in Disney’s Magic Kingdom ~ By Guest Author Karyn Locke

Published November 13, 2014 by Karyn Locke

Memento Mori

Those of you that have read my blog posts in the past certainly know my affection for Disney’s Haunted Mansion in Magic Kingdom. I get asked what my favorite ride at Walt Disney World is all the time, and without hesitation, I happily answer, “Haunted Mansion”. My family and I have gotten to the point that we know which wall panel of the stretching room will slide open and head directly to it, and can talk right along with “Your Ghost Host” while he is reciting his monologue. Yeah, I’m that much in love with the ride. With each visit to Magic Kingdom, I would hunt out the latest Haunted Mansion items for sale in the shops and carts, hoping for something other than a HM key chain or t-shirt to purchase.

Fast forward to the opening of Memento Mori- Disney’s Haunted Mansion store in Liberty Square. From the Latin phrase Memento mori (remember death), the Magic Kingdom store was bound to not only have every item that I’ve dreamt of owning, but a sense of humor just like my beloved ride.

I, along with my family,  was one of those folks happy to queue up outside the storefront in Liberty Square waiting my turn to purchase goodies covered with spooky-eyed wallpaper and adorned with candlestick-holding gargoyles. Giddy with delight, my family and I headed into the shop, and just like a kid in a candy shop, could not decide what to purchase first.

What’s “In Store” for You?

Memento Mori

What’s in store for happy shoppers, you ask? So many spooky, kooky, creative, and downright awesome Haunted Mansion items that you’ll be hard-pressed to choose a favorite!

Memento Mori

When you walk through the store entrance, you’ll notice a cool photography room where you can get “ghostified”, as my daughter calls it. Just like the famous paintings in the ride, the photo will look normal from one angle and creepy from another. Well worth the $20 if you ask me.

Memento Mori

There’s tons of fun items to take home, like well-made pens, fedoras, and of course, t-shirts.

Memento Mori

Make sure to mosey around the store, as there’s some really cool details along the walls.

Memento Mori

Haunted Mansion phone cases, necklaces, and other themed jewelry as far as the eye can see!

Memento Mori

Want a Haunted Mansion hair accessory? Look no further. There’s really cute headbands with the bat stanchions from the ride queue available for your wearing pleasure.

Memento Mori

Here’s the part of the store that was the most fun for me- the kitchen/table ware area. There’s Master Gracy china, Madame Leota towels, HM aprons, cups, glasses, and candlesticks for your table.

Memento Mori

Looking for a way to spruce up your living room & bedroom? There’s throws and pillows that would make a fine addition to the room.

I did notice an absence of one important item: the doombuggy! I’ll put that on my list for Santa this year.

Video! Exclusive Disneyways Interview with Djimon Hounsou from Guardians of the Galaxy!

Published July 31, 2014 by Disneyways.com

You may have caught a glimpse of Djimon Hounsou in his role as  Korath the Accuser in the trailers for Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy.” Between 1989 and 1991, he appeared in the music videos for “Straight Up” by Paula Abdul and “Love Will Never Do (Without You)” by Janet Jackson, as well as Madonna’s Express Yourself. In 2007, Hounsou began dating model Kimora Lee Simmons. On May 30, 2009, Simmons gave birth to their son, Kenzo Lee Hounsou. Hounsou has been nominated for 2 Academy Awards and 1 Golden Globe, and has had quite an accomplished career as an actor and model. But today, we’ve got a new look at Hounsou, right here on Disneyways, just for you!

Yesterday a red carpet event was held at an AMC theater in Orlando for the new Marvel blockbuster Guardians of the Galaxy. Our friend Jason, who runs Orlando Fun and Food and has been a guest on the Disney Parks Podcast, went out to the event on behalf of our site. Djimon Hounsou, who plays a villain in the movie, was on hand at the red carpet. Jason had the chance to interview him about his role in the “Guardians of the Galaxy” on behalf of Disneyways. Check below for a video of interview.

About Guardians of the Galaxy: From Marvel, the studio that brought you the global blockbuster franchises of Iron Man, Thor, Captain America and The Avengers, comes a new team—the Guardians of the Galaxy. An action-packed, epic space adventure, Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy” expands the Marvel Cinematic Universe into the cosmos, where brash adventurer Peter Quill finds himself the object of an unrelenting bounty hunt after stealing a mysterious orb coveted by Ronan, a powerful villain with ambitions that threaten the entire universe. To evade the ever-persistent Ronan, Quill is forced into an uneasy truce with a quartet of disparate misfits—Rocket, a gun-toting raccoon, Groot, a tree-like humanoid, the deadly and enigmatic Gamora and the revenge-driven Drax the Destroyer. But when Quill discovers the true power of the orb and the menace it poses to the cosmos, he must do his best to rally his ragtag rivals for a last, desperate stand—with the galaxy’s fate in the balance.

The Best Table Service restaurants at Walt Disney World for solo travelers ~ By Guest Author Katie Miller

Published July 25, 2014 by Disneyways.com
Some might balk at enjoying a Table Service restaurant solo, but just because you’re traveling alone doesn’t mean you shouldn’t enjoy a nice meal.  There are lots of great Quick Service options at Disney but there’s something to be said for taking the time to savor a meal at one of the unique restaurants at Walt Disney World.
So what are the best Table Service restaurants at Walt Disney World for solo travelers?
* Sanaa, Animal Kingdom Lodge
The menu at Sanaa is not to be missed; the bread service alone is worth going there!  The vibe at Sanaa, although a touch upscale, is very comfortable for solo diners.  Asked to be seated a table near the window and see the animals roaming the savannah at the resort, or relax at the very comfortable bar area.  You can’t miss with Sanaa – even if you’re not staying at Animal Kingdom Lodge, it’s worth a trip to eat there!

* Rose and Crown Pub, Epcot’s World Showcase
What’s better than kicking back with a pint, watching the world go by at Epcot?  Not much, that’s for sure!  Not only does the Rose and Crown Pub (located at the UK pavilion on the World Showcase) have awesome food and great drinks, if you eat there in the evening you can request a table that faces the water and watch Illuminations, Epcot’s nighttime fireworks show. A perfect ending to your Disney day!

* Kona Cafe, The Polynesian
If you’re looking for a great breakfast option, look no further than Kona Cafe, located at Disney’s Polynesian Resort.  There are some incredible options to choose from, including the famous Tonga Toast, the most decadent french toast. YUM!  In addition to delicious entrees they also have the famous Kona coffee; be sure to get it in the french press – there’s no better way to start your day! (and pssst: They have awesome lunch and dinner, too!)

* Artist Point, Disney’s Wilderness Lodge
Where should you go if you’re looking for an upscale dining experience?  Take time for an evening meal at Artist Point, located at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge.  The setting is simply gorgeous and incredibly relaxing, and the service is top-notch. Every solo traveler should take time to treat themselves to a special meal, and Artist Point definitely fits the bill.

* Beaches and Cream Soda Shop, Disney’s Beach Club Resort
If you like diners, amazing desserts and a “retro” vibe, be sure and schedule a meal at Beaches and Cream Soda Shop at Disney’s Beach Club Resort. The atmosphere of Beaches and Cream is super laid-back and fun, and hearkens to diners of yesteryear. Sit at a table, booth or better yet right at the counter, and transport yourself right back to the 1950s. The burgers and fries are great, but be sure to save some room for the ice cream!  The picture here is the No Way Jose – peanut butter, chocolate sauce AND ice cream?! Sign me up!
