Dapper Day 2013 – An Introduction

Published January 2, 2013 by Disneyways.com

Last year Dapper Day saw 3,000 – 4,000 participants in Disneyland alone. Judging by the popularity, we believe it is destined to get bigger every year. So what is Dapper Day and what does it all mean for you and your visit to Disney Parks?

Let me start by saying that Dapper Day is NOT a Disney sponsored event. It is completely optional and perfectly OK to stay casual or not even participate at all.

In fact, the concept is very new. Started spring of 2011, Dapper Day organizes fashionable gatherings at The Disney Resorts in LA, Orlando, and Paris. The coming celebration will be an  all-day event, including an “evening affair.”

Again, it is certainly NOT official, and purely optional and fun.

How did the event come about? Organizer Justin Jorgensen is said to have been inspired by the original Imagineer Illustrations of Disney Park designs and even more recent concept art for Epcot.

These images often portray guests dressed as though they are going out for a very upscale event such as an opera or a maybe a high-end restaurant. Why shouldn’t going to Disney still be on par with such grand affairs?  Well, that is what Dapper Day is all about. It is a chance to realize those designer’s dreams. On Dapper Day, you bring those illustrations to life when you become those well dressed guests the designers imagined (or hoped) would be filling the park.

Stay tuned to Disneyways for more on Dapper Day, including ideas for what to wear, videos from last year, event hours and suggested schedules. Each event usually has a simple schedule of one or two in-park gatherings like the evening “Dapper Derby” at the Fantasyland carrousel in Disneyland.  However you and your party are encouraged to enjoy the park at your leisure.

So what are your thoughts? What do you think of the idea of Dapper Day and will you be participating?

From Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom in Orlando Florida:

“The Dapper Dans tip their hats to a new kind of music that they discovered while “strolling through the park one day.” Watch for this winsome quartet and their all-new medley that will have “Everybody” seeing “What Makes You Beautiful.” But they won’t be saying “Bye Bye Bye” to barbershop completely—after all, the Dapper Dans are the “Original Boy Band.” Part of Limited Time Magic, this musical time warp is a can’t-miss experience at Magic Kingdom park in Florida.” – source LimitedTimeMagic.com

We love you Barbara! Not to outshine you though…there is more BIG news everyone has been waiting for!! It’s almost like an early black Friday! Are you ready for this?

If you are planning on attending the event on Saturday, Disney would like to make you aware that parking for Downtown Disney Marketplace will begin at 3:00 a.m. YES – you read that right. That is 3 o’clock in the morning eastern time!

Getting up before the birdies helps guarantee you a place in line.

There will be a designated queue outside World of Disney starting at 4:00 a.m. Wristbands will be given to guests in line to “ensure an enjoyable shopping experience for everyone”.
There will be purchase limits in place at the World of Disney in Florida on September 21-22, 2013.

Guests can get (1) of each style of Vera Bradley bags in the “Just Mousing Around” collection (8 styles total) and one (1) of each style of Vera Bradley bags in the “Midnight with Mickey” collection (8 styles total). You can get your bags only while supplies last. Disney reserves the right to change any of these rules without notice.

Being a huge fan of Vera Bradley bags, especially in for use the parks, I think I would get in line in the middle of the night if I could. (I am in love with the Midnight with Mickey Hipster and Smartphone Wristlet!)

Vera

Don’t feel sorry for me though…I have invested in a ticket to Florida Blog Con – a currently sold-out blogger conference being held here in Orlando on the very same day. I have been looking forward to his conference since tickets first went on sale months ago. Last year was amazing and this year is expected to be just as wonderful! I am super excited and I just can’t wait!

Besides…if I am a good little girl maybe Santa will leave one of these gorgeous Vera Bradley bags under my Christmas tree this year. Do you think Santa reads Disney blogs?

OK so what are your thoughts? Are you going to get involved in all this excitement? What patterns and styles will you be wishing for – or perhaps buying? Please leave me a comment and tell me all about it! Have a magical day!

Top 10 Rides For Babies and Toddlers at Disney World’s Magic Kingdom

Published May 19, 2013 by lwcgal2004

Hayden from Disney World on a Budget is our newest guest blogger here at Disneyways and we are so thrilled to have her with us!

hayden

Have you ever been at Walt Disney World with a baby or toddler and wondered which rides they would enjoy the most?

Hayden has some great suggestions to share!

Here is her complete list of  top 10 rides at Magic Kingdom for babies and toddlers:

10. Walt Disney World Railroad–this is a great ride to save for the end of the day when you’re tired of walking. I recommend riding the railroad from Fantasyland station to Main Street Station. This twenty minute scenic ride is a great way to see the park. Also a great to spot to nurse a baby.

9. It’s A Small World—this is such a fun ride for children of all ages. Hop in a boat for a leisure ride throughout the different countries, the music entertains my kids and they are left singing the song for days afterwards.

Small World

8. Jungle Cruise–this is such a classic Disney ride, I remember riding this back in 1988 when I was just a child. The Jungle boat takes you on a fun ride throughout the jungle where you will see elephants, tribal natives, giraffes and even a waterfall.

7. Tom Sawyer Island–A great place to explore, get away from the crowds and let your little ones run! Tom Sawyer Island is also a great spot to have a picnic, there are picnic tables on the island and a small playground. There are also bathrooms and water fountains. *It is hard to push a stroller on the island as there are many caves, steps, etc. so I recommend using a baby carrier.

6. Prince Charming Regal Carousel–This is a great photo op and a must do for children of all ages. Parents can stand and hold their children (there are buckles) and parents can even ride too.

Carousel

5. Peter Pan’s Flight–The wait is usually long for this ride so I suggest getting a fast pass. Peter Pan’s flight is a quick ride so don’t blink or you will miss it! It is worth the wait in my opinion, kids will feel like they are flying while riding this cute little iconic ride that tells the story of Peter Pan.

4. Under The Sea With Little Mermaid

3. Magic Carpets of Aladdin–The carpets will seat 2 to 3 children per row, there are 2 rows per carpet. Our family takes up 1 whole carpet and I recommend having a parent sit in the front carpet so you can turn around and take your children’s picture on the carpet 🙂 You can control the carpet and make it go up high or down low. The children get a kick out of this. You might even get a spray of water from the camels!

2. Dumbo–The ride has been much improved with the new Fantasyland expansion and now the wait time has been cut in half. There is no height restriction on this ride and even my littlest one was able to ride at only 11 months old (of course a parent must hold little ones). Each Dumbo flies high in the sky for just a few minutes but this is such a classic Disney ride that children of all ages love it.

1. Buzz Lightyear Space Ranger Spin–This ride can be a little scary if your child is afraid of the dark, however, it is so much fun. Children really love the bright lights (neon) and the ability to shoot a lazer gun is the highlight of the ride for my children. You can control whether or not your spaceship spin’s around too which is neat. The wait times can be rather long for this ride, try to grab a fast pass and  while waiting go and meet Buzz himself – he is usually right outside of the ride area.

Limited Time Magic Rumors!! Another All Night Party?!

Published March 29, 2013 by Disneyways.com

Just a rumor for now – but I heard Friday May 24th there will be an all night party into Saturday morning in WDW’s Magic Kingdom Park.

Visions of Leap Day are dancing in my head!

How about you?

lTM

Another rumor – Magic Kingdom is considering a Limited Time Magic event that will involve Tinker Bell and her friends for a week. Word is that we will get to meet them all together and they will give out autograph cards similar to the ones we saw earlier this year from the characters during Limited Time Magic.

If the rumor is true – this event would take place in April or early May.

Later today there will be an announcement from Disney about the ACTUAL Limited Time Magic coming for this week. Follow me on facebook and twitter for the latest on that! Have a magical day!

Throwback: Video and Photo Tour Halloween Around the Globe 2012 – Disney Style!

Published October 31, 2012 by Disneyways.com

Decorating the house or the yard for Halloween is one thing, but imagine what it must be like to celebrate Halloween with thousands of people each year. That is exactly what Disney does, and here is how they did it all around the world in 2012. Photos are ©Disney

Walt Disney World

Magic Kingdom Park is home to Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party, where Guests are encouraged to dress in their favorite costumes for this ticketed event. The festivities feature two lively performances of Mickey’s “Boo to You” Halloween Parade, which begins with a spooky and spirited ride by the Headless Horseman.

Magic Kingdom Park boasts 15 treat locations, two character dance parties, about 60 Disney characters, and a Happy HalloWishes fireworks spectacular with Disney villains trick-or-treating in the night sky. Magic Kingdom gives away more than 215 tons of candy to trick-or-treating guests and nearly 200 individually themed carved pumpkins adorn the balconies and windowsills along Main Street, U.S.A.

Disneyland Resort
New to Mickey’s Halloween Party in 2012, Town Square becomes Villains Square each party night at the Disneyland Resort, with loathsome characters such as Jafar, Ursula, and Captain Hook entering on a ghostly horse-drawn carriage to mingle!

On the Rivers of America, the Dapper Dans have been transformed into Cadaver Dans, singing spooky songs as they float along. These guys created a huge buzz on Twitter this year! They were very popular!

Also new this year is the Halloween Carnival at Big Thunder Ranch Jamboree in Frontierland, featuring the Magic Cauldron Sideshow. Guests can help cast a magic spell, conjuring a Disney Villain from his or her realm before returning to worlds beyond. YIKES!

Aulani, a Disney Resort & Spa
At Aulani, a Disney Resort & Spa, guests are celebrating Halloween in true island style, and they are really living my dreams out there! Disney characters wear Halloween costumes to meet and greet guests attending arts and crafts classes and at Halloween events at Aunty’s Beach House and Pau Hana. A Hallow’Teen event after dark on the beach at Ki’i One offers a pumpkin-sculpting contest. A Teen Glow Kinect Dance Challenge and Scary’oke contest at Painted Sky are also part of the spooky fun. Younger children are the stars on Ohana Disney Movie Nights featuring Disney Pixar’s “Monsters Inc.” and “The Haunted Mansion.”

Disneyland Paris
Celebrating Disneyland Paris’ 20th anniversary in joyfully wicked style, Disney’s Halloween Festival makes a mostly ghostly experience for guests.

Pumpkins, ghosts and other spooky spirits welcome guests on the Castle Stage at Sleeping Beauty Castle for “Mickey’s Halloween Treat in the Street!” Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse dress up as vampires and Donald Duck is a “little devil” as they and their pals play a series of interactive games with Guests to share in the holiday fun. Disney Villains join the party in Fantasyland, where they mix and mingle with wary Guests at the Castle Courtyard. This video gets cool about 10-20 seconds in – so stay tuned!

Disney’s Halloween Party is must-see entertainment at Disneyland Paris, and Terrorific Night is scarier than ever at Walt Disney Studios Park. Disney Dreams! is a nightly show created to mark the 20th anniversary of Disneyland Paris. It  features scary moments featuring Dr. Facilier (“The Princess and the Frog”), Ursula (“The Little Mermaid”), and Captain Hook (“Peter Pan”) ! Not to be outdone, Goofy has designed a special machine to make his favorite Halloween treat. This strange candy-making contraption can be found by following the puffs of smoke and sweet smells across Town Square.

Hong Kong Disneyland Resort
WOW! This is like a techie’s dream! Hong Kong Disneyland celebrates Halloween a little differently! It’s a clash between the Vampire Coven and the Were Tribe in the “Choose the Dark Side Challenge” smartphone game app and augmented reality (AR) experience that attracts gamers and fun-seekers this Halloween season.

Guests participate through AR technology by joining vampires in a struggle for power with werewolves. The ultimate showdown takes place at “Main Street, U.S.A. ? Clash of Evil,” where the supreme ruler of the dark forces will be revealed.

Haunted Halloween Magic Mirrors can be found around the theme park. The magic in the mirrors is activated by certain T-Shirts! Check it out!

Jack Skellington and his crew from Tim Burton’s “The Nightmare Before Christmas” augment the spooky celebrations by leading the “Glow in the Park Parade.” And the haunting “Revenge of the Headless Horseman” spooks Guests in the heart of Adventureland, while nearby the Grim Reaper searches for victims in “Adventureland-Cursed Jungle.”

Tokyo Disneyland Resort
“A Halloween Daydream” is on display at Mediterranean Harbor at Tokyo DisneySea. Many favorite Disney characters, including Mickey Mouse and his bony, newfound skeleton friends, are welcomed to join the carnival-like celebration with Guests reveling in the friendly festivities.

“Chip ‘n Dale’s Skeleton Fiesta” highlights a lively parade-like atmosphere featuring a live band, vibrant costumes and dancing along in this Dia de los Muertos-inspired celebration in Lost River Delta at Tokyo DisneySea.

Bring your Tokyo currency! More than 400 Halloween-themed merchandise items are available at Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo DisneySea. New merchandise items featuring the Disney characters that appear in “A Halloween Daydream” will be offered at both parks. The Refreshment Station offers a “black” version of the popular Gyoza Sausage Bun, and at Miguel’s El Dorado Cantina, Guests can enjoy skull-motif taco rice.

Disney Cruise Line
Check out the Halloween treats if you are a guest on  Disney Cruise Line at this time of year:
· Haunted Parties: Beloved Disney characters in special Halloween costumes join guests for a fun-filled Halloween costume party complete with live music, dancing and lots of candy. For adults, the nighttime entertainment district on the Disney ships becomes the ghoulish setting for a costume contest and party sure to bring chills to everyone.

· Spooky Movies: To get Guests into the spirit of the season, Halloween-themed movies will be shown on Funnel Vision by the family pool and in Guest staterooms.

· Ghoulish Delights: Disney Cruise Line chefs have conjured some very special treats for Halloween, including chocolate cake with pumpkin filling, spider cakes and a special “Witch’s Brew.”

That about does it for Disney Halloweenies this year! I hope you’ve enjoyed Halloween globe trotting with me today!
