Revealed! Festival of Fantasy Parade Floats Backstage and More

Published January 15, 2014 by Disneyways.com

Spoiler alert! The nice folks at DisneyLifestylers, DisneyParksBlog, and InsideTheMagic.net have posted backstage photos of some of the magical floats that will debut this spring in the brand new Festival of Fantasy Parade. As a refresher: the new Magic Kingdom parade titled Disney Festival of Fantasy Parade, will feature new parade floats, costumes and theme music. We are expecting floats that will include themes such as “Tangled” “The Little Mermaid,” “Sleeping Beauty,” “Dumbo,” “Pinocchio,” “Peter Pan,” “Brave,” and a Princess unit.

Over the past year The Disney Parks Blog has released concept art and photos of the floats that we know for sure are coming, so let’s start with those:

InsideMagic.net has a couple of additional ones that you can check out HERE.

Despite no official date being announced by Disney, The Disney Parks Podcast team is betting on March 16th 2014 as the first day of the parade. In fact, we have built a meetup around it! We would love to have you join us, and you can get the details HERE. This is subject to change – so be sure to check our facebook page and website for all the latest on the meetup.

8 Royal Babies of Disney

Published July 22, 2013 by Disneyways.com

Disney Royal Babies are so fun! Let’s take a walk down memory lane and reminisce about 8 of our favorite Disney monarchs in their younger days.

Let’s begin with beautiful little Tiana as a toddler!

tiana

She was not a Princess quite yet in this photo – but with her paper crown and a wish on a star – she was well on her way!

Bless my soul – Herc still had his (baby) rolls!

Hercules
Hercules was a demigod in Ancient Greece, pretty close to being a royal – right? Besides…this photo of little baby Herc is just so cute!

Bambi

sword and the stone

Bambi’s dad was called the”great prince” of the forest. Here is Bambi as a fawn – just about ready to begin walking in his Dad’s royal footsteps!

Tarzan

Tarzan

He would grow up to be the king of the jungle!

Health to the Princess Aurora!

Aurora

Princess Aurora was born to a King and Queen, betrothed, eventually married to her Prince! The whole kingdom arrived when she was born – she’s (kind of) a big deal don’t you think?

Simba and Nala

Simba

Shown here as a cuddly little lion cub – he just couldn’t WAIT to be king! Already hanging out with his beautiful future queen – baby Nala!

Little Merida!

merida

Already beautiful with her sassy big hair – here is marvelous Merida! Officially coronated in 2013 – she is certainly a Princess known for being the most gifted sports – like in archery!

Rapunzel!

rapunzel

Despite being kidnapped as a baby, Punzy still managed to grow in grace and was always a princess at heart.

All photos are credit Disney including the awesome one below! Can you name some Royal Babies of Disney that we might have missed?

How to get a Princess Makeover when the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique is fully booked!

Published June 13, 2013 by Disneyways.com

Here is an awesome World Secret I learned from Ramon at Theme Park Concierges! Have you ever tried to get your little Princess an appointment at the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique – only to find out that they are completely booked? It’s happened to many guests I am sure – but there IS an alternative that can be just as magical and fun – with a location that can’t be beat if you are enjoying a Princess Tea or maybe dinner with Cinderella at 1900 Park Fare! By the way, did you know 1900 Park Fare dinner is the only character meal at Walt Disney World where you can meet Prince Charming? It’s true, and now, even if the Boutique is booked…you have another option to get your little Princess all dressed up to meet him.

***Update – January 2015!! The salon is now offering Perfectly Prepared Princess packages that include crowns!***

Prices start at $50 for princess hairdo, glitter and a tiara; add a little princess glow make-up for $25 more. Option three includes hair, and a  light nail polishing for $90. Kids ages 4-12 can get The Perfectly Prepared Princess Package! This is available at Ivy Trellis, Coronado Springs Casa de Belleza Beauty Salon and at the Yacht and Beach Club Resort Ship Shape Salon. Don’t forget that a 20% gratuity is added to every service. Call Ivy Trellis at 407-824-1679 for more information.

Here is the secret place!

Ivy Trellis Beauty and Barber Shop – located inside the Grand Floridian Resort and Spa at Walt Disney World! It is truly a hidden gem! As a bonus, it is even possible that your Princess will enjoy more special attention and a quieter atmosphere than she would at the Boutique. Be sure to scroll all the way down to the bottom of this post to see examples of the finished product.

You will find Ivy Trellis on the 2nd floor – in the main building, near the the Monorail. They have been known to take walk-ins but appointments are strongly encouraged. The hours of operation are normally 9:00AM-6:00PM.

Ivy Trellis

I stopped in and spoke to Robin McKenna – Master Cosmetologist at the salon for these tips on how you can make this appointment extra magical for your Princess.

IMG_6175[1]

First give them a call at the salon at 407-824-1679 or 407-824-3000 (for the Grand Floridian) and ask for the Flower Girl Bundle plus makeup – and explain you are scheduling a Princess makeover for you little one. This will cost about $50 and they will add a 20% gratuity. Payment will be due after the service is provided.

Second, go to your local beauty supply store or website and order a hair extension if you would like. The salon will not have these available – you must bring your own if you want one to be used. Click HERE to see an example of styles and pricing on the hair pieces to give you an idea. The salon has makeup but you will need to bring your own glitter if you want your Princess to really sparkle.  If you don’t have time to plan ahead, you may be able to find hair extensions, ties and hair clips at Downtown Disney Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique. They also have the means to do over-all pixie dusting at the Downtown Disney boutique (for free) after the makeover is complete. The Harmony Barbershop on Main Street inside the Magic Kingdom also may have pixie dust available to sprinkle.

Last is taking care of attire, shoes and accessories. You can get wonderful home-made gowns from Etsy.com, or even make your own if you plan ahead. Upon arrival at Walt Disney World, you can try Hollywood Studios Character Warehouse, Downtown Disney’s World of Disney Store, Mouse Gear in Epcot, or the gift shop in the Contemporary resort. Animal Kingdom’s Island Mercantile has been know to carry some Princess attire as well – including Pocahontas!

The most simple solution however is M. Mouse Mercantile. This is the gift shop located right there across from Ivy Trellis Salon inside the Grand Floridian!

I found the cast members inside the gift shop to be VERY helpful!

The selection may vary but here is what I found inside M. Mouse Mercantile on the day I visited:

Limited Time Magic: “Merida’s Royal Celebration” at Magic Kingdom Park May 11th 2013

Chat live on Twitter @Disneyways #DPP

Almost one year ago today – one of my very first blog posts here on Disneyways was all about how Merida brought back one of my favorite things in fashion – BIG HAIR!

Merida is fabulous – and this weekend she will be enjoying some major recognition – that she so very much deserves.

Limited Time Magic: “Merida’s Royal Celebration” at Magic Kingdom Park on May 11th!

Magic Kingdom Park will play host to a joyous, regal celebration to officially welcome Merida into the Disney Princess Royal Court. As a part of Limited Time Magic, guests will join in for the festivities at Cinderella Castle, as all 10 Disney Princesses come together in honor of their newest member, the brave and independent Merida. This will be a grand event! To give you a little history, the last princess to become official was Rapunzel in 2011. Her ceremony took place in London. Tiana, in 2009, enjoyed hers at the historic New York Palace Hotel.

Merida

There will even be a chance to commemorate Merida’s special occasion with a limited edition Merida inspired T-shirt created for toddlers and youth, available at the Emporium inside Magic Kingdom Park while supplies last!

Something’s Fishy at New Fantasyland!

Published December 1, 2012 by Disneyways.com

Sure, I’ll admit it. I am one of THOSE people. I LOVE the Little Mermaid. I know what a snarfblat is, I love Ariel, and I love little singing crabs with Jamaican accents. At the risk of keeping Disneyways family friendly…I think Prince Eric is kinda confident and sexy. I can’t think of another prince who wouldn’t get all embarrassed if you asked about his dinglehopper.

It’s OK because I know I am not the only one.

I remember all the lyrics to “Part of Your World” and have been known to sing them on demand. So when it was revealed that there would be a Little Mermaid attraction added to the new Fantasyland – well – let’s just say it was kind of a big deal to me. This may explain why I believe in my heart that Scuttle saw me and actually SPOKE to me (ala Turtle Talk with Crush) on one of my first rides through the attraction. I was alone…and it has not happened since…so it could just be that I had a little too much Le Fou’s Brew that morning.

Anyway, it is in this spirit of love for Princess Ariel, and the grand opening of the New Fantasyland on December 6th, that I wanted to share with you this video from Attractionsmagazine.com. Here you will find footage of the full ride and queue line preceding it. I hope you can come see the real thing for yourself very soon.

Oh – and if you hear singing from the clam shell behind you – that just might be me – so lean over and say hi before covering your ears.
